Lead Systems Engineer – Messaging
I work as the messaging team lead within a Global operations team put together to provide operational support for Active Directory & Exchange 2003 for Unilever’s 90k mail users worldwide. I am currently working with a small team building the infrastructure environment which will support the new exchange 2003 service.
Our new mailbox deployments will consist of a mix of centralised and distributed servers. We will be monitoring our entire global environment of 105 standalone and EVS Exchange boxes with Microsoft’s MOM Enterprise management tool. I am currently working with a colleague in evaluating and testing the management packs for Exchange & AD within a development environment prior to documenting and then building the production environment for the live service.
My previous role was working with our technology design team where I was tasked with putting together Unilever’s Exchange test plan to stress test our Exchange 2003 designs within Microsoft’s Enterprise Engineering centre within the U.S. I then acted as co-ordinator on site at MS where I spent 2 weeks as part of a small team performing tests which where used to evaluate and report on our design’s suitability.
I wrote the test reports and assisted with the additional work which was fed back into the design as a result of the testing. I then with a colleague defined the routing topology needed for co-existence in order for Unilever’s current messaging system to work with Exchange during mail migrations which are scheduled to occur up until the end of 2006.
One of my current roles is defining the Standard Operational procedures and Exchange Disaster recovery procedures which Unilever will use globally to support the new service.
I provide third level support to all regions for legacy Messaging & Directory systems as well as PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) and work closely with the Global design and project teams to take designs through to implementation and operational acceptance.
Troubleshooting Messaging – SMTP, Protocol & Routing problems.
Troubleshooting X500 replications and directory related issues
Managing upgrades, testing & QA for Entrust PKI
Testing, building, release management for Messaging & Directory portfolio.
Change management process – logging changes, Adding/Modifying CI’s
Incident/Problem management – performing 2nd level/3rd level support for service incidents, feeding known errors and problems into Problem management process.
Working with colleagues to identify capacity management requirements.
DNS Issues – Sendmail - Name resolution .
Network/Messaging & Directory protocols:- TCP/IP, SNMP, DISP, LDAP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, MAPI
